Awkward and Awesome – That time my husband tried my breast milk…

It’s been a while since I’ve done an awkward and awesome…but I thought it was an appropriate Frivolous Fridays post!Awkward and Awesome www.bestofbabylady.com

awkward

I think this story just needs to have the “awkward” category entirely to itself…

My husband must have some ancestral connection to the Great Depression, because he never lets ANYTHING go to waste.  Even the smallest scraps of food left on a plate, he’ll finish off because he can’t stand to throw food away. Back when Jay started eating solids, I used make him oatmeal with my pumped breast milk.    I think you see where this is going…

Jay had some leftovers from his oatmeal.  Allen, not knowing it was “special” oatmeal, polished off the rest of the bowl.  Later in the day, he says to me “Honey, I hate to say it, but that wasn’t your best oatmeal”.  I busted out laughing and told him it was breast milk oatmeal.  His response “oh.”  and then “GAHHHHHH”

awesome

-I’m suuuuper excited about my International Birth Stories series that just started.  Every week, I’ll be posting a new birth interview from an American woman who gave birth abroad.  Birth and foreign culture…could it get any more interesting?!

-I’ve been on a bit of a blogging high these past two months.  I had an article go viral, Scary Mommy published one of my posts, and this week I got invited to be a Huffington Post blogger!

I’d love to hear your own Awkward and Awesomes…if you write a post, leave me a comment with the link so I can check it out!

Hahaaa 😀 oooops 😉 I heard a hilarious story once of a guy who was in a small gathering of friends playing with a friend’s young child. The little kid was playing with his sippy cup, drinking it, and offering it to the man. The man would pretend to drink it and hand it back, and this continued for awhile. During one of their exchanges, for whatever reason, the man took a sip from the cup, then realizing that was kinda weird said, “Why did I do that, what if that was breastmilk?” To which the mother softly piped up, “It was!” 🙂

I’ll have to work on some awkward/embarrassing moments posts sometime! How fun!

Ha, isn’t it a rite of passage that every husband must consume his wife’s breast milk, intentional or not, in their coffee or oatmeal?

Congrats on the blogging milestones! And your series on giving birth as an expat is very interesting! In my family, 6 of us were born in America, and then the youngest sister was born overseas–Mom has often talked about the differences–some of which are probably explained by the fact that I and my youngest sister are 16 years apart, but culture plays a huge part, too.

    • Reply Bestofbaby March 23, 2015 at 10:59 pm

Hahaha yes! We have two levels of “spoiled” in our house. Level 1 – spoiled…no one but Allen will eat it. Level 2 – REALLY spoiled – even my hubby won’t eat it! So many times I’ve found myself saying “yea, it’s spoiled, but you’ll have no problem eating it”. Yuck.

Had to laugh. It always amazes me that people get freaked out by consuming breastmilk, but guzzle cows milk without a thoght. What do they think that is? A cow’s breastmilk!!

Congrats on all the blogging kudos and opportunities!

What a great story!! Thanks for sharing!!

We were doing a newborn naked baby photo when my #1 was born. Daddy was holding him. Baby boy pooped all over Daddy. Daddy almost dropped baby boy, from shock and disgust. Haha! It was awesome.

AHAHAHa Dana that’s hilarious! That happened to my husband with our first. It was the middle of the night and he was changing his diaper when my son had a huge poop (of the liquidy breast milk variety) in my husbands hands. My husband just stood there in shock, poop dripping between his fingers, not sure what he should do next.
