Awkward and Awesome – That time my husband tried my breast milk…

It’s been a while since I’ve done an awkward and awesome…but I thought it was an appropriate Frivolous Fridays post!Awkward and Awesome www.bestofbabylady.com

awkward

I think this story just needs to have the “awkward” category entirely to itself…

My husband must have some ancestral connection to the Great Depression, because he never lets ANYTHING go to waste.  Even the smallest scraps of food left on a plate, he’ll finish off because he can’t stand to throw food away. Back when Jay started eating solids, I used make him oatmeal with my pumped breast milk.    I think you see where this is going…

Jay had some leftovers from his oatmeal.  Allen, not knowing it was “special” oatmeal, polished off the rest of the bowl.  Later in the day, he says to me “Honey, I hate to say it, but that wasn’t your best oatmeal”.  I busted out laughing and told him it was breast milk oatmeal.  His response “oh.”  and then “GAHHHHHH”

awesome

-I’m suuuuper excited about my International Birth Stories series that just started.  Every week, I’ll be posting a new birth interview from an American woman who gave birth abroad.  Birth and foreign culture…could it get any more interesting?!

-I’ve been on a bit of a blogging high these past two months.  I had an article go viral, Scary Mommy published one of my posts, and this week I got invited to be a Huffington Post blogger!

I’d love to hear your own Awkward and Awesomes…if you write a post, leave me a comment with the link so I can check it out!

Oh Hey, Friday! – Currently Confessions

Currently Confessions
Wondering – Am I the only who doesn’t like scarves? I kind of feel like they are a passive-aggressive attempt at strangling. Not to mention how cumbersome I find them while holding a baby…

Eating – (Yes, my “currently” has an eating section…keeping it real.) Cinnamon rolls with cream cheese frosting. Confession….I may or may not have eaten a spoonful several spoonfuls of the frosting on its own. Thighs, you’re welcome.

Working on – My WordPress site. I’m jumping the Blogger ship and migrating over to self-hosted WordPress. I’m hoping to launch it this weekend if all goes smoothly! WordPress, let’s hope the hype is real because so far, you’ve been nothing but complicated. (Seriously? I can’t change my font without editing code?)

Loving
– The South. Weather warm enough to take the baby out and sunny enough to wear big sunglasses in. Y’all, it’s January. (And best carrier ever, by the way, and I’ve tried just about all of them)

Planning – A linkup (coming soon!) and a group giveaway. If you’re interested in co-hosting the group giveaway, leave me a comment or shoot me an email! (Contact info at top of page)

Awkward and Awesome #3 – Container Poop and the Big Mouth

Awkward and Awesome #3

awkward

My son describing his poop to me (yes. boys). “That one was a snake” ok I get that.  “That one was rocks!”  Ok I get that too…  “That one was a container and the lid was open”.  Ummm, what?

I had to get refitted for my night guard (thank you tooth grinding) because my wisdom teeth messed up the first molding. My dentist said most people don’t have big enough mouths to fit their wisdom teeth, so they’re harder to fit.  Did my dentist just call me a big mouth?

I basically ate this whole bag of chocolate covered pretzels in one sitting. It was one of those days where everything else had to come before mama eating…so once 3:00 came and I’d only eaten 2 egg yolks all day (because the toddler stole the egg whites) and they were there and I was done and I had 10 minutes of silence after the baby went down and before the toddler woke up and I ate them. No shame.  (And don’t be fooled by that apple…it was just for show)

awesome
Jay keeps calling Elle the most darling names, but my favorite?  “Sweet girl” …”Hey sweet girl! Your brother is here!”  I melt.

How much this little girl loves looking at books.  Her eyes get so big and she makes the cutest little squeals...another bookworm joining the ranks!

Oh hey, Friday…the last of bad pictures

1.) 2015, are you really here?  I’m not one for making New Year’s resolutions (I prefer the monthly goal approach), but I did like what Brittany from The Kardia Blog did…choosing one word to focus on for the upcoming year.  I’m stilling mulling this one over…

2.) I got a fun “new” (to me) camera for Christmas…I’m so excited to start learning how to use it and start taking better pictures!  This may be the first time I’ve ever actually read an instruction manual (much to my hubby’s chagrin…who has had to reassemble way to many things).  For reals though, it’s about time I stopped taking pictures with my living room floor as the background…

3.)  We had a lovely low-key Christmas.  We usually travel to see family over the holidays, but we chickened out this year with a 2 month old.  We drove 8 hours when Jay was 2 months old and oh man…never again.  While we missed seeing our family, this was our first Christmas with just us and it was sweet to start some of our own traditions.  Like having a Chinese food picnic on Christmas Eve (and hey! it’s a picture of my kitchen floor, not the living room!)

4.) Most people make Christmas cookies…we’re making New Year’s cookies. My sweet hubby thought it would be fun to love on our neighbors with some cookies. (I’m choosing to love on myself a bit too).

5.) Anyone else obsessed with planners? Ideally, I would have loved one of these, but I’m having fun with my little planner too. ( Obligatory coffee planner pic, obviously)

I’m getting so excited just planning out my editorial calendar…get ready for posts about cloth diapering, pregnancy, doula dreams, nursing, and FINALLY part 2 of my birth story! (And some non-baby stuff too…any guesses on what “Weakling Bread” may be?)
