Y’all, it’s almost Christmas! The thing I’m most looking forward to? Spending uninterrupted time with my 3 most favorite people. I’ll be checking out of the blogging world over the holidays, but until then…here are some of my Christmas Favorites.
(Several bloggers are doing this, but I first saw it on one of my favorite blogs, Oak and Oats)
I’m not a big movie person, mainly because my husband can’t stand to watch something for more than 20 minutes at a time, but if I had to choose…maybe The Grinch? It brings back memories of being in school the day before winter break (because EVERY teacher played that movie) and feeling so excited for the upcoming holiday!
Glühwein….yummmmm. It’s a German hot spiced wine and it’s just so darn delicious. (When you say it, pucker your lips almost like your whistling….glüüüüüühwein)
Hanson’s Christmas album. Yup, I’m that girl that plastered Hanson posters ALL over my room (#1 Zack fan 4-eva!) I still think they’re a great band, but I’ll always prefer their music from the days when you couldn’t really tell if it was boys or girls singing.
This year, I’m going to try my hand at cinnamon rolls, but really, I love baking anything with my little man! (P.S., if I offer you any baked goods, you should probably ask me if Jay helped bake them first. Today, he sneezed in the cookie dough because he kept wanting to smell all of the ingredients. Last week, he spit in the bread dough, because…well because he’s a boy)
Jay is old enough to do a (chocolate) advent calendar and it’s so much fun! Everyday, he asks “what we look for today?” and gets so excited when he finds the number. I take so much delight in my kids’ delight!
As I mentioned in this post we don’t have a huge collection of ornaments, but almost all of the ones we do own, we either bought for each other, or were gifted to us by family. It’s hard to pick out a specific one when they are all have meaning!
When we were dating, Allen and I had a shared love for the movie Aladdin, so our first Christmas as a couple I bought him an Aladdin and Jasmine ornament. What I didn’t realize at the time is that it was a wedding ornament with the two characters decked out in wedding attire…so I kinda sorta secretly proposed to my boyfriend through a Christmas ornament. Did I mention we’d only been together for 3 weeks? Thankfully I didn’t scare him off. (I like to think it was just good foreshadowing…I had a strong feeling I was going to marry this guy right from the start!)
Fudge fudge fudge. It’s one of my most favorite foods in the world. Two weeks ago, I made an AMAZING batch (that I polished off completely by myself in just 4 days). This week, I made some for my husband’s work party and it was a complete flop. For some reason, it didn’t solidify and it was a sticky, gooey, unappetizing mess. It was literally sliding off the plate by the time he got to his office. Wife fail.
Gingerbread cookies and gluhwein. Can you tell I used to live in Germany?
VERSEMaybe not your “typical” Christmas verse, but it’s Gospel folks.
“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23
I’d love to hear your Christmas favorites! If you write a post, leave a comment with a link to your blog so I can check it out!
